Overview

Le Mien - Craft Noodle in Ottawa’s ByWard Market is a culinary gem for anyone seeking authentic Chinese hand-pulled noodles. Situated conveniently on William Street, this eatery not only delivers on flavor but also offers an engaging dining experience that sets it apart from many noodle shops in the city.

What makes Le Mien truly special is the craft behind their noodles. Diners can watch skilled chefs pull and shape noodles just a few feet away, adding a theatrical element that makes the meal both satisfying and memorable. The process is a nod to tradition, highlighting the artistry behind each bowl.

The menu centers around various hand-pulled noodle dishes, with the braised beef tendon in brown sauce and traditional beef noodles standing out as favorites. The rich, savory broth complements tender cuts of beef, creating a comforting and hearty meal. For vegetarians, their hand-pulled noodle soup offers a well-balanced alternative, maintaining the same depth of flavor and texture. The inclusion of pickled cabbage and bean sauce toppings adds layers of complexity and contrast that elevate these bowls.

Portion sizes at Le Mien can be quite generous. Several customers note that even the smaller bowls are filling, which makes it ideal for those with a strong appetite or for sharing. Some find that ordering multiple small bowls allows for a better protein-to-noodle ratio, enhancing the overall balance of the meal.

Alongside the noodles, side dishes like sweet and sour cucumber, edamame, and marinated mushrooms complement the main course perfectly. These lighter, fresh options balance the richness of the noodle broth and provide varied textures and flavors, rounding out the meal experience.

The atmosphere is calm and welcoming—a quiet refuge amid the bustling market streets. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable, eager to recommend dishes tailored to individual preferences, which is especially helpful for first-time visitors unfamiliar with hand-pulled noodle varieties.

Le Mien’s target audience ranges from local food enthusiasts looking for authentic regional Chinese fare to visitors exploring the diverse culinary landscape of Ottawa. It’s an excellent stop for those who appreciate traditional techniques paired with quality ingredients and generous portions.

In summary, Le Mien crafts more than just noodles—they deliver a warm, engaging experience that celebrates authenticity and skill. For a comforting bowl filled with handcrafted noodles and rich flavors in a relaxed setting, Le Mien is a must-visit destination in ByWard Market.

Diner and a show! Enjoy your meal while watching the chef make the noodles a few feet away from you, right there in the kitchen! Fair warning: a small bowl is big!! I’ve been here a handful of times and have never been disappointed. Ask the staff to recommend what type of noodle best suits you and enjoy a warm bowl of comfort

Quick service! Hand pulled noodle with beef is always a good choice - large is a great sharing size. Hand pulled noodle with beef and bean sauce is filling. Country style beef isn't too spicy. Sweet and sour cucumber adds good balance to the meal.

We got a large beef noodles soup, and it was huge! Honestly, I think it could be a perfect plate for 3 people. The only thing we didn't like was that the portion of beef was so small for their biggest plate (110 g according to the waitress, which is only 3-4 thin pieces), so it's just like a lot of water and carbohydrates, but it lacks protein heavily. The flavor of the broth is amazing, the noodles are good, and the place is quiet. I'd suggest it is better to order several small sizes to get more protein.

Absolutely loved this place! I visited Le Mien Craft Noodle while exploring the ByWard Market area in Ottawa, and it did not disappoint. The hand-pulled Lanzhou noodles were delicious — the broth was flavorful, the beef was tender, and the portion was HUGE (seriously, bigger than my face!). I also tried the marinated mushrooms, and they were super tasty too. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. You can tell they take pride in both their food and their service. If you’re in Ottawa and craving authentic Chinese noodles, this is a must-visit. I’ll definitely come back next time I’m in town!

The broth was so good! We ordered the traditional and braised beef bowls, both medium sized. I thought it would be appropriately sized for my appetite but I was so wrong! The serving size is HUGE! I should have gotten small. I prefer the braised beef one as the beef was so flavorful and it complements the clear broth so well. Definitely worth it

Authentic Chinese hand pulled noodles! The flavor was amazing and you can watch the chef hand pull the noodles in front of you. We got the edamame, bean jelly noodles, noodles with bean sauce, and the Chinese style hamburger. All were freshly made and delicious. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.
